Health insurance

• You should obtain a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) before leaving the UK. (see the website www.dh.gov.uk) The EHIC is not a substitute for medical and travel insurance, but covers you for emergency medical treatment. You will not be covered for medical repatriation, on-going medical treatment or treatment of a non-urgent nature.
• But, because the EHIC does not cover medical repatriation, non-urgent medical problems or on-going treatment, it is strongly recommended that you obtain comprehensive travel and medical insurance before travelling. You should check for any exclusions in your policy and make sure that your policy covers you for the activities you want to undertake.

Driver's license

• Available in all cities and from airports to full licence holders over 21 years of age
• Visitors may drive on their national driving licences for up to three months in all provinces, with the following exceptions: Prince Edward Island – four months; Yukon – one month; British Columbia, New Brunswick and Québec – six months.
• However, it is recommended to apply for an International Driving Permit.
