Health insurance
For European residents :- You should obtain a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) before leaving the UK. (see the website www.dh.gov.uk) The EHIC is not a substitute for medical and travel insurance, but covers you for emergency medical treatment. You will not be covered for medical repatriation, on-going medical treatment or treatment of a non-urgent nature.
- But, because the EHIC does not cover medical repatriation, non-urgent medical problems or on-going treatment, it is strongly recommended that you obtain comprehensive travel and medical insurance before travelling. You should check for any exclusions in your policy and make sure that your policy covers you for the activities you want to undertake.
