Health insurance

• You should obtain a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) before leaving the UK. (see the website www.dh.gov.uk) The EHIC is not a substitute for medical and travel insurance, but covers you for emergency medical treatment. You will not be covered for medical repatriation, on-going medical treatment or treatment of a non-urgent nature.
• But, because the EHIC does not cover medical repatriation, non-urgent medical problems or on-going treatment, it is strongly recommended that you obtain comprehensive travel and medical insurance before travelling. You should check for any exclusions in your policy and make sure that your policy covers you for the activities you want to undertake.

Driver's license

• In order to drive in the Russian Federation, one must possess an International Driving Permit and a national licence with authorized translations.
• Visitors travelling in their own cars must also carry with them the following documents at all times:
• Passport and visa.
• Itinerary card showing visitor’s name and citizenship.
• Car registration number and full details of itinerary including the date and location of pre-determined stopovers.
• The form provided by customs on arrival ensures that the car will be taken out of the Russia upon departure
• Petrol vouchers purchased at the border.
• Insurance documents.

Vaccination

• There are no specific vaccinations that are required or recommended.
• The water throughout the Russian Federation is not potable.
