Course description
The programme can take place in 3 different public schools in Galway :- Coláíste Ignoaid is a public co-educational secondary school. Established in 1860, having a long and well-founded history, the school’s ethos is to provide “an education tailored to the needs of young people facing out to take their rightful place as mature adults in a complex society”. Although the school is Catholic in its philosophy, it warmly welcomes students of all religious dominations and none. Today, Colaíste has an enrolment of 650 students.
- Salerno Secondary School: Salerno is an all girls Catholic Secondary School with a strong Christian ethos. The educational philosophy of the school recognizes the importance of each student reaching her full potential. This is achieved through the quality of education the students receive and by the witness of life lived there. The friendly and caring atmosphere of the school encourages and motivates students in developing good interpersonal relationships which promote self-esteem, mutual respect and consideration for others. Today, Salerno has an enrolment of 520 pupils.
-St Mary Secondary School: is an all boys secondary School and has traditionally drawn students from a large catchment area and so will endeavor to continue to accommodate this wide range of students. The Ethos of the College is Catholic. Built on elevated ground with commanding views over the city of Galway and set amidst the famed scenic beauty of Galway bay, St. Mary’s College has an excellent academic programme and emphasis on participation in sport and other leisure pursuits such as drama and debating, St. Mary’s College aims at providing the fullest and best opportunity for harmonious growth of each student in his intellectual, physical and aesthetic development.

Our advice
Having the opportunity to spend an academic year in a country with an excellent education system and famous for its friendy people is a unique and valuable experience.
To enroll in this programme students have to be able to communicate in English but when they finish the programme they are absolutely bilingual. The full language immersion is with no doubt the most effective way to learn a language: what can be better than studying one year with young Irish students?
