Seattle is the largest city in the Pacific Northwest region of the United States.
Seattle is located in the U.S. state of Washington between Puget Sound and Lake Washington, only 108 miles (174 km) south of the United States and Canadian border in King County.Seattle is the hub for the Greater Puget Sound region. Its official nickname is the Emerald City, which was the winner of a contest held in the early 1980s to create a pleasant nickname for the city. The name alludes to the lush Evergreen trees in the surrounding area. Seattle is also referred to informally as the Gateway to Alaska, the Queen City, and the Jet City, because of the highly prominent Boeing company which is located there.
Seattle is often considered the birthplace of grunge music, and also where many famous coffee companies were founded, including Starbucks, Seattle's Best Coffee, and Tully's Coffee. There are also many successful independent artisan espresso roasters and cafés.
