Through a mix of practical workshops, demonstrations and research, you’ll explore make-up and hair design for historical and contemporary drama. You will have the opportunity to experiment with a variety of techniques and styles and will be encouraged to develop your own individual approach to character make up. Each week, there will be the opportunity to record your finished looks in a series of photographic shoots.
WEEK ONE

Through practical sessions and tutor demonstrations, you will begin with an introduction to make up including
enhancing the face and basic application. You will experiment with a series of looks centred around avant garde and high fashion make-up with demonstrations in a variety of hair techniques including crimping, braiding and spiral curls.
WEEK TWO
INTRODUCTION TO CASUALTY
FLAT PIECE PROSTHETICS
GELATINE & LATEX APPLICATION
ZOMBIE WORKSHOP
TRANSFORMATION & SHOOT
Explore casualty simulation and special effects looks in a series of demonstrations and practical activities. You will learn how to apply and create realistic ‘accident’ style make-up including, cuts and grazes, sweat, burns and scarring.
You will work with specialist materials including latex application; a ‘zombie workshop’ will guide you through
the design process and application of creating your own zombie transformation.

1920s HAIR & MAKE UP
1940s HAIR & MAKE UP
1960s HAIR & MAKE UP
1980s HAIR & MAKE UP
EXHIBITION OF WORK & CERTIFICATE
During the final week you will focus upon a series of period make-up looks for stage and screen including 1920s,1940s, 1960s and 1980s. You will enhance your knowledge on iconic looks through the ages, recreating key aspects of the era and have the opportunity to experiment in a variety of period hair work, including wigs and specialist hair pieces. Your finished looks will be exhibited at the end of the course for group discussion and final critique.
