With historic woodlands, rolling wheat-fields that are dotted with poppies and windmills, estuaries and coastal villages, Essex is the ideal location for relaxation and rejuvenation.
Essex is located in southeast England, on the Thames River and the North Sea. It is one of the “Home Counties”, which border London. There are a plenitiful amount of streams and salt marshes that add to the very important oyster farming industry, as well as a market for gardening and many dairy and sheep farms which make Essex such a beautiful place. Essex was once part of the kingdom dominated by the East Saxons. Roman and Saxon remains can be found at Colchester and Maldon, which are popular resorts on the coast.
For visitors, heritage and fun blend well with plenty of activities and sights to choose from. Unrivalled collections of national and international importance can be found at Colchester Castle and Museum, and over 200 acres of attractive parkland, much of it landscaped in the 18th century, provides the setting for the University of Essex Colchester campus.
