Reading Comprehension (Paper 1), 1 hour and 15 minutes
This paper assesses your ability to read and understand a number of texts taken from books, newspapers and magazines. You are expected to be able to show understanding of general ideas, main points, detail, text structure specific information. In addition to this, you must be able to deduce meaning from each text while also identifying opinions and attitudes prevalent in each text.
Writing (Paper 2), 2 hours
This paper assesses your ability to write non-specialized text, such as letters, articles, reports and reviews for a given purpose and a target reader, covering a wide range of topics. Responses need to be about 250 words in length.
English in Use (Paper 3), 1 hour and 30 minutes
In this paper, you are expected to demonstrate knowledge and control of the language by completing various tasks at phrase and sentence level, taken from authentic texts. This will include filling in the blanks, error correction, word formation and text completion exercises.
Listening Comprehension (Paper 4), 45 minutes (approx.)
This paper assesses your ability to understand the meaning of spoken English, to extract general ideas and meaning from spoken text, and to understand the speakers' attitudes and opinions. The texts are taken from a variety of mediums including interviews, discussions, lectures and conversations.
Speaking (Paper 5), 15 minutes (approx.)
This assesses your conversational English skills in a wide range of contexts. It is normally taken in pairs. This test has four parts where you will be provided with materials such as photos and drawings that you must discuss. The topics in the sections include individual minute-long turns to speak, a collaborative task, and a discussion.
