Reading Comprehension (Paper 1), 1 hour and 15 minutes
This portion of the test assesses your ability to read and understand texts taken from fiction and non-fiction books, journals, newspapers and magazines. You are expected to be able to show general understanding and also of details of text structure, while still being able to deduce meaning.
Writing (Paper 2), 1 hour and 30 minutes
This paper assesses your writing skills by examining your abilitiy to write texts such as letters, articles, reports, compositions and reviews. This written section will cover a wide range of topics meant to interest a large variety of readers.
Use of English (Paper 3), 1 hour and 15 minutes
This paper requires you to demonstrate your knowledge and control of the language by showing your proficiency of spoken language in sentences and phrases. One must complete this section by filling in the blank, transforming words and phrases, and identifying grammatical errors in texts.
Listening Comprehension (Paper 4), 40 minutes (approx.)
This paper assesses your ability to understand spoken English, and to extract general ideas and meaning from spoken text. The textual prompts are taken from a variety of mediums, including interviews, discussions, lectures and conversations.
Speaking (Paper 5), 14 minutes (approx.)
This assesses your conversational English skills in a wide range of contexts. It is normally taken in pairs. This test has four parts where you will be provided with materials, such as photos and drawings that you must discuss. The tasks in the section include an interview, individual minute-long turns to speak, a collaborative task, and a discussion.
