In 1991, the New Zealanders of European origin represented 79.5 % of the population, while 12.9 % were of Maori origin. The third most common ethnic group is constituted of Polynesians, followed by some smaller ethnic groups, such as the Chinese, Indians and Vietnamese.
In the south, the climate is cooler. Inland, you can ski and on the coast, you can admire whales swimming in fjords. In the neighborhood of Auckland, the climate is almost Mediterranean. Extremely north is a subtropical region with warm water and luxuriant vegetation. Visiting New Zealand is like taking a tour of the world.
