Afternoon schedule of lectures and visits
This course is intended for non-native English teachers who wish to refresh their own language skills and at the same time examine different teaching methods and approaches.
This course provides opportunities for teachers to discuss and share ideas with colleagues from Europe and beyond.
The sessions involve a variety of workshop, communicative and lecture formats, with 10 hours a week devoted to language usage, awareness and development. A further 10 hours is dedicated to the exploration of eclectic and pragmatic methodologies.
We can also offer a focused primary / secondary course if numbers permit.
The Language Component includes:
- Integrated skills and sub skills
- Vocabulary in context
- Grammar and use of language
- Idioms and phrasal verbs
- Pronunciation, stress and intonation
The Methodology Component includes:
- The communicative approach
- The lexical approach
- Task-based learning
- Whole brain learning for the different learning styles
- Drama in the classroom
- Literature and stories
- Music and song
- Using authentic materials
- Exploiting the course book
- Games in the classroom and activities using no resources
- Promoting learner autonomy
Workshops examine:
- Traditional music
- CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning)
- E-Learning
Afternoon Lectures examine:
- Political and historical background in Ireland/England
- Literature and drama
- The Great Poets
