Benalmádena is a seaside small town located in the heart of Costa del Sol, just 18 kilometers southwest of Malaga and its international airport. The city is bordered on one side by the Mijas Mountains and the other by the Mediterranean Sea. In its early history, Benalmádena was a quiet village of Andalusian fishermen, but has recently transformed into a city full of life and activity, while still retaining its charm and character of years past.
Benalmádena is one of the most important tourist centers in Western Costa del Sol. Its vast range of infrastructures and services are highlighted by an international amusement park. The municipality of Benalmádena extends from the foothills of the Sierra de Mijas to the coast. It is a town built on elevated land and thus provides the eyes with a superb panoramic landscape. One can see the center town of Arroyo de la Miel, where the majority of the population lives. Finally, the Benalmádena-Costa, has numerous hotels, golf courses, a casino and a marina, which are all popular attractions. The Bil-Bil castle, which lies on the coast, was built in the neo-Arabic style in 1934 and is a curious construction. Other interesting sites include the Gardens del Muro, a composition of plants and water designed by César Manrique, and the town hall where expositions and cultural events are held.
